Cooking ingredients

  • 8 cups (half gallon) apple cider

  • 1 orange, sliced into rounds
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • A handful of fresh cranberries (optional)
  • 1 lemon wedge, for the rims

Do it

  1. Pour the cider into a pot with the orange rounds, cinnamon sticks and cranberries. Bring it to a bare simmer over medium, then drop the heat so it steams but never boils.
  2. Stir in the Orchard Chai Spice. Give it 15 minutes on low for the chai and apple to open up. Taste it, and add a little more if your cider runs tart.
  3. Run the lemon wedge around each mug rim and dip it in Orchard Chai Spice.
  4. Ladle, drop in an orange round, and hand them out.

Tip for cooking

For the grown-up version, add 1 oz bourbon or spiced rum to the mug, not the pot, so the kids' cider stays kids' cider. In a slow cooker on low it holds all evening.
